Will NATO's game be over? EU seeks to establish independent military organization

The position of NATO in Europe is weaking and due to that the European Union (EU) is making significant efforts to make its military system stronger. Because of the US retreat from the Ukraine war and the sluggish reaction of NATO, European nations are now making plans to establish a new military organization. Major changes are being planned in the security policy and military strategy of Europe. As a result of the destabilization of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization role, the European Union is now heading in the direction of providing a new direction to its military power. Brussels meetings are debating a plan to transform Europe into a military superpower. 

NATO's sluggish response

The prime reason for this shift is America's remoteness from direct involvement in the Ukraine conflict and the lag in response by NATO. European nations are realizing that they can no longer rely on the US entirely for their security. Thus, the EU is intending to develop an independent separate military organization, which can serve in lieu of NATO.

A top-level EU leaders' meeting in Brussels is considering how to turn the bloc into a powerful military organization. Leaders of 27 nations at the meeting are debating raising defense spending and establishing joint military commands to make Europe militarily independent.

Most important meeting ever

European Council President Antonio Costa called it the "most important meeting ever" and suggested that the decision may create a historic change in the security policy of Europe. The position of NATO has weakened in recent times, particularly during Donald Trump's administration, when the US took lots of negative decisions about NATO. Furthermore, the failure of NATO to act promptly in the Ukraine war created dissatisfaction among European nations.

Strengthen capabilities

The European Union is developing new regulations to enhance its military strength, such as raising the defense budget and producing advanced military hardware. If the EU manages to establish its new military institution, it would be a huge blow to NATO. The power of NATO would be weakened by the large nations of Europe having their own army independent of NATO.

If the new EU military organization is established, it can become one of the strongest military organizations in the world. It will consist of France, Germany, Italy and other big countries in Europe, who will be armed with the most advanced military technology.
